The Waiting Place

...for people just waiting...

When it comes to waiting, I am not a fan. Patience is not a virtue that I possess. Yesterday, I waited for what seemed like forever at the doctor's office. I'm not one to run to the doctor's office for every little sniffle, but lately, I've been feeling kinda crappy. A couple of weeks ago, I had strep throat, which made me feel so bad that a trip to Urgent Care was required. The past few days, my throat has been sore again, and it has been really painful to swallow. Hoping to avoid another bout with strep, and another 2 days out of work, I went ahead and made an appointment with the doctor.

The appointment was at 3pm, so I left work around 2 and headed to the office. I arrived around 2:35 and got checked in. Of course, the waiting room was almost full. I sat and waited as people that arrived after me were called back, but not me... I was still waiting. Finally, after about 45 minutes, I was called back to have my vitals checked. Once completed, the nurse said, "We don't have a room available, so you'll have to go to the back waiting room." No surprises there...

Once in the back waiting room, the real fun began. It was extremely cold. Usually, I'm hot by nature, but I was wearing my pea coat because it was so cold in there. There were also some annoying people to make the wait even longer. People that sat too close, or talked too loud... maybe I am just easily annoyed...

After almost an hour and a half!! I was finally called back to an exam room, where (you guessed it!) I waited another 20 minutes for the doctor to come in. Remember when I said that my appointment was at 3? By this time, it was almost 10 minutes until 5. Once he finally came in, I told him what was going on and he did the typical, look in your ears, nose, throat, listen to you breathe, exam and said, "Well, if I had to guess (?!?), it is just your sinuses draining. Here's a prescription," and left the room.

EXCUSE ME?!? I just waited over 2 hours for a guess? Not to mention that the office visit was over $100. Definitely time to start searching for another doctor.

Thank goodness I had my BlackBerry with me, so that I could stay some what entertained...

  1. That's so irratiting. When I had to go in for my follow up after the D&C, I waited an hour until I got to see the doctor, which ended up only being 5 minutes. I feel they should have to pay ME to wait for them.
