#Shift is coming to #GreenvilleNC

Photobucket

Shift is a free conference that is coming to Greenville in May of this year. It is designed to give local businesses information on Social Media and how to use it for their businesses. I'm proud to say that I am doing my part by joining with other Eastern, NC businesses to sponsor this event.

You may be asking yourself why a Tupperware Consultant, who has a very small business, would want to sponsor an event like this. Here's why: Social Media Works. The answer is simple. As someone who markets their business on Twitter, Facebook and more recently, Tumblr, I've seen social media and social networking sites work for me.

Through Twitter, I've met people from all over the country, and while I may not ever meet them in person, or go into their homes to do a Tupperware demonstration, I have sold them Tupperware. I've met people at Tweetups that have purchased Tupperware... even hosted their own catalog party. One of my recruited consultants is someone that I met through Twitter. In other words, a little time on the Internet, and a few tweets and Facebook posts have made me money.

I'm excited about the Shift Conference. If you are a local business that wants to learn how you can use Social Media to work for you, Shift is the place to be. May 27 and 28, 2010 at the Greenville Convention Center. Until the event, learn more on the City Shift website, and follow @CityShift on Twitter. You can also become a fan on Facebook.

Come out and learn... and spend my birthday with me :)

The Waiting Place

...for people just waiting...

When it comes to waiting, I am not a fan. Patience is not a virtue that I possess. Yesterday, I waited for what seemed like forever at the doctor's office. I'm not one to run to the doctor's office for every little sniffle, but lately, I've been feeling kinda crappy. A couple of weeks ago, I had strep throat, which made me feel so bad that a trip to Urgent Care was required. The past few days, my throat has been sore again, and it has been really painful to swallow. Hoping to avoid another bout with strep, and another 2 days out of work, I went ahead and made an appointment with the doctor.

The appointment was at 3pm, so I left work around 2 and headed to the office. I arrived around 2:35 and got checked in. Of course, the waiting room was almost full. I sat and waited as people that arrived after me were called back, but not me... I was still waiting. Finally, after about 45 minutes, I was called back to have my vitals checked. Once completed, the nurse said, "We don't have a room available, so you'll have to go to the back waiting room." No surprises there...

Once in the back waiting room, the real fun began. It was extremely cold. Usually, I'm hot by nature, but I was wearing my pea coat because it was so cold in there. There were also some annoying people to make the wait even longer. People that sat too close, or talked too loud... maybe I am just easily annoyed...

After almost an hour and a half!! I was finally called back to an exam room, where (you guessed it!) I waited another 20 minutes for the doctor to come in. Remember when I said that my appointment was at 3? By this time, it was almost 10 minutes until 5. Once he finally came in, I told him what was going on and he did the typical, look in your ears, nose, throat, listen to you breathe, exam and said, "Well, if I had to guess (?!?), it is just your sinuses draining. Here's a prescription," and left the room.

EXCUSE ME?!? I just waited over 2 hours for a guess? Not to mention that the office visit was over $100. Definitely time to start searching for another doctor.

Thank goodness I had my BlackBerry with me, so that I could stay some what entertained...

REWIND: January 2010

When did February get here? I mean really! I've decided that I will continue with the Rewinds this year, and hopefully be more consistent with them. I used to write long drawn out posts, but I really like bulleted lists... so here goes:
  • Began the New decade out with friends... the first time I've ever been in a bar when the ball dropped.
  • Went to a fun Liberty Bowl Party - although the Pirates did not pull off the win.
  • Got to see the little baby that is growing inside of my sister, and found out that in late June, or early July, I will have a Nephew.
  • Completed 3 books.
  • Had to stay out of work for a few days with Strep Throat.
  • Went Round and Round with Verizon about getting me a new BlackBerry when mine broke... dealt with crappy customer service and ended up being without a phone for almost a week.
  • Watched snow fall, and then the freezing rain came, covering everything in ice for the last few days of January.
The month flew by! Seriously, at this rate, I need to start Christmas shopping! What was your January highlight?
