A Moment of Clarity

Let me paint a picture for you...

A young couple, probably in their mid to late twenties... with 3 small children, none of which was probably over the age of 5, go to Walmart to do some shopping.  Of course, since it is the Holiday season, the store is packed beyond belief.  Two of their children are in the cart, and the third is wondering around near them... touching stuff and asking questions about everything in sight.  The couple is looking at the telephones in the electronics section of the store.  This is how the conversation went... keep in mind that I was not eavesdropping... they were talking so loudly, that anyone around them could hear...

Man:  Gosh, I thought that these would be cheaper than this!
Woman:  Well, we need a phone...
Man:  Well which one do you want?
Woman:  How about this one? (Picks up a very simple cordless phone)
Man:   It's $14... do you really want this one?  What about this one? (Pointing to a corded phone) It's only $9!
Woman: (obviously perturbed) I don't want that one... I'd have to sit right beside the computer to talk on the phone! I don't want to do that... I want a cordless one!
Man: Well, we can just put a longer cord on it...
Woman:  (fuming at this point) No!  I want a cordless one... Oohh.. look at this one... its $30, but you get two phones with it.
Man: What the Hell are we going to do with two phones?  Do you just want to wait?  They might go on sale after Christmas.
Woman: No!! I'm not waiting, we are getting one today. We'll get this one... (throws the $14 phone in the cart)

As they walked off, I heard the woman say "You always have to be so tight!  Its not even your money we are spending... we have gift cards!" As I stood there listening to them loudly argue in the middle of a public place, something seemed familiar about the whole situation.  And in that moment, that very moment, it was Crystal clear...

That is what life would have been like for me if I had stayed with my ex-fiance.  The whole situation... from being young and married, with children that resembled stair-steps, the arguing over spending money, all of it would have been the same for me.  Standing in Walmart, for the first time in a long time, I felt at peace about calling off the engagement.  I knew that I did not want that to be my future.

Right now, I definitely needed to encounter that couple in Walmart.

Crafty Christmas...

Since funds have been a little tight this year, I decided to make some of my Christmas presents.  It costs a little less than what I would normally spend on someone, but it is more personal to them and what they like.  I haven't finished all of them, but here are two that I have already given, since they were for people at work.

This picture frame was for my boss, Susan.  She loves all things girly and whimiscal.  She has a few things that are pink and green, so I decided to throw some of that in there as well.  She loved it!  (Sorry about the weird angle... it is really hard to take a picture of a picture frame... )

This one was for Kathy.  We work in the office together.  She loves all things beachy.  She has lots of photos of the beach, and talks about going all of the time.  I am really happy with the way that this one turned out!  Surpringly, it wasn't hard to do.  Kathy loved it as well.

Once I finish the others, I will post more pics...  I'm not nearly as ready for Christmas as I should be... are you?

Oh where, oh where has my motivation gone?  Oh where, oh where could it be?

Lately, I haven't been motivated to do anything... I hate being this way, but I would much rather sit here and look up crap on the internet or make a blog post than do the things that I really need to get done.  For instance... Christmas is in 8 days, and my Christmas tree still sits half decorated.  I have all of the ornaments here, and there are some on the tree, but I can't seem to get it together and finish it.  I haven't finished my Christmas shopping... I still have about 5 gifts to buy, and 4 to make (yes, make)... and the ones that I have bought, aren't wrapped.

Everyday, I feel like I don't get anything accomplished, and so, at the end of the day, I tell myself that I am going to get up and get motivated to do all of the things that I need to do.  But somehow that never seems to work out the way that I have planned.  Today, I had a list of things that I wanted, no, needed to get done, and none of them are finished.  Some of them are started, but not finished.  I have managed to load the dishwasher and do a load of laundry....

Maybe I will get some of my motivation back soon... I hope so!  Maybe there will be more 'cheerful' blog posts later.

Say Thanks...

What a simple way to say "thanks" to the men and women who are fighting for our country. Xerox will print and send your card for FREE to the Troops overseas. Whether you are for or against the war, the men and women over there need to know that we are behind them and support them.

I got tagged.... 6

So Courtenay tagged me on her blog... so I guess I will play along.

This is the 6th picture from the 6th folder on my computer.... really... This is my engagement ring. I took this picture on Christmas Eve 2006, a few days after Will gave me the new ring. We picked this ring out together, after he said that he wanted to buy me a new ring because the first one was really small. Little did I know that a little over a month later, I would be returning the ring to the jewelry store. That is one of the most humiliating things ever... returning your engagement ring... especially when you break down in the middle of the jewelry store, in the middle of a mall.. and the sales lady is a complete jerk.

So... now I am supposed to tag 4 people... I tag Kaylene, Leah, Lindsay, and LeeAnn.
Here's your directions:
1. Go to your sixth picture folder and find the sixth picture.
2. Pray you remember the details!
3. Post it on your blog.
4. Tag four others and leave a comment on their blog to let them know they've been tagged.

Project 365 - Take 2 - Day 2

New Hair!
Today I got off work a little early, so Stephy colored my hair.  I love it!  A nice dark color for winter... and no brassy blonde!   What do ya think?

Project 365 - Take 2 - Day 1

Wouldn't you know it... on the day that I decide to restart my Project 365 thing, my camera would be dead... so I settled for the cell phone... which is why this picture is very crappy.

Christmas tree - Phase 1.  I put up the tree today, and its a new one, thats pre-lit.  I'm gonna have to play with it a lot more cause I think it just looks like crap.  I think being out of the box, will help it some and I just have to get the branches right.

Next phase - Decoration.  I have to wait until I can go out to Mama's and get all the ornaments and stuff.  I was going to get them Sunday, but it decided to rain all day.  Hopefully the next pics I post of the tree will look a lot better.

Alone in this house again tonight....  Tonight I wanna cry.

Like the more festive look of the blog?

December already?

Where did the month of November go?  I mean really... time is flying by. I guess this always happens as we get closer to the Holidays.  Everyone has things to do and its just a busy time of the year.  I was going over what we have planned for December, and there is going to be a lot going on.  Random Christmas Parties, a trip out of town, family get togethers... so much packed into one month.

Needless to say, my NaBloPoMo challenge did not work out as planned.  I didn't blog everyday, but overall, I think I blogged a lot more.  Some days, there just isn't anything to write about.  There were also days, when writing was the last thing I wanted to do.  So, while I may have failed at the challenge, I think that I did accomplish part of the personal goal: To blog more often.  I will continually try to blog more, but I don't think that I necessarily need the pressure of "having" to make a post.  Maybe something exciting will happen so that I can write some more exciting, and less depressing blogs.

As for Project 365, well, that didn't go as planned either.  I missed a day, and it was so easy to just "forget" about it.  So... I am going to start over.  There will be plenty of things to take pictures of in the next month, so be on the lookout for Project 365 - Take 2.  With tomorrow (well, actually today) being December 1, I will start over.  This one, I think is a little easier than writing a whole blog entry everyday, so I might can stick to this one.  I just have to remember to take my camera with me everywhere.

Well, I guess I should go to bed.  Its gonna be hard to get up in the moring and go back to work with the extended break that we've had.  Only about 3 weeks, until there is a whole 2 weeks off!  Can you believe that its almost Christmas?

Some other things I asked for...

This seems really like I'm asking for a lot, since I have now, 3 posts with Wish List items for Christmas... but everyone keeps asking what I want.. and I have a hard time coming up with things, until I really start thinking about things I could use.  Tonight, I rambled off some things to Mama, some big, some little... I gave her some suggestions, so if she was asked, she would know what to tell people I wanted.  I know I won't get everything, but it never hurts to ask right?!  I was going to be all fancy like on my first post, but I'm being lazy right now, so all you are going to get is a list... no links or pics...

  • A new TV.  - Mine is old and small.  I want a new one, but I know they are expensive.
  • A small crock pot.  White, please.
  • A blender.  Again, white, please.
  • Scrapbook storage cubes.  These are the white blocks that you can find at Michael's that have slots for scrapbook paper and supplies.  Some have drawers.  I need a mixture of the styles they have.
  • Socks.  Cute ones, that come above your ankle... the other ones slip down on my feet.
  • A cute apron. Black and white or red.
  • Work Shoes... the ones I have are getting worn out from being worn everyday... and they need replaced.  I currently have a pair of Sketchers work shoes, but I really want a pair of these Crocs.
  • I mentioned clothes for work in the previous post.... I really need black pants.
  • Another set of sheets.  Black or White
  • Some good cookbooks
  • A simple point and shoot digital camera
  • Dishes, white or red
  • Anything monogramed with my name or initals...

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

For some reason, call me weird, I don't eat a whole lot on Thanksgiving.  Like today, I only had a little bit of the fried turkey that daddy cooked (with BBQ sauce, of course), one piece of the ham, a deviled egg and a spoonful of collards (yum...)  Now, I will ususally eat a couple of servings of collards, but today I wasn't feeling all that great.  I did finish it off with pecan pie.

This year, I made the pecan pies!  They turned out yummy... and were surprisingly easy to make.  I'm trying to learn how to cook more, so I told Mama to let me make the pies.

So here's a little list of some of the things I am thankful for...
  • My family
  • My house
  • My job
  • Being Healthy (for the most part)
  • Being an American

More of my Christmas list...

So, Mama's been bugging me even more to finish a Christmas list... and since I know she's stalking this blog to see if I posted anything else... I guess I should add some more things.

DVDs - I don't have a lot of DVDs.  We had lots of them at Mama's, but since I moved out, I didn't really take any with me... A lot of these that I have listed are new releases, but there are a few old ones thrown in there too.
  • Forgetting Sarah Marshall
  • Super Bad
  • Step Brothers (release date: Dec 2)
  • The Bucket List
  • Fools Gold
  • Just Friends
  • Knocked Up
  • The Break Up
  • Must Love Dogs
  • Made of Honor
  • Baby Mama
  • What Happens in Vegas
  • Definately, Maybe
  • Juno
  • Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
  • Enchanted
  • The Game Plan
  • License to Wed
TV Shows I want on DVD
  • Grey's Anatomy (all seasons)
  • Desperate Housewives (all seasons)
  • Sex and the City (all seasons)
  • Roseanne (I have season 1)
  • Ugly Betty

A few changes...

Because some people out there don't have lives, and feel the need to be rude, you will notice some changes when you go to leave a comment.  You will now have to sign in... using either your google account or an OpenID account.  If you don't have one, sorry, but you will need one to comment.  Also, the comments won't be posted right away... I will have to approve them before they show up on the site.  And finally, there will be a captcha code that you have to enter, this is the word verification thing that is becoming more and more common on websites.

I hate that it had to come down to this, but I feel its the best thing to do.  Sorry that one person ruined it for the rest of you, (not that this is really a big deal...)  I have always had this be a public blog with no restrictions on who can comment... I don't want to have to resort to making this a private blog.

Tweeple at a Tweetup...

This post is really late... but because of feeling like crap this weekend and yesterday, I wasn't really in the mood to write.  Better late than never, I guess.

Last Thursday, I met up with a group of people... also known as Tweeple. What are Tweeple, you ask? We are the people of Twitter.  We met at Starbucks and just sat around and talked... about random things... things like where we worked, what we did, and even running into bears.

These little meetings are called Tweetups.  This is the 2nd one that I have been to.  They are usually held about once a month, at different locations around town.  I had a lot of fun, meeting new people, sharing stories, and laughing.   I laughed a lot!

For me though, this is a lot bigger than the other people there know.  This was a rare occurance... I got out of the house.  I had actual human interaction with people that I am not related to, or work with.  Since my sister moved out, and my roommate moved out, I have been very lonely.  I need more of that.  I really don't have a lot of friends, and maybe this is what I need to get out and meet new people and make new friends.  Being there was something I needed.  I'm glad that I found out about them.

The frist Tweetup that I went to had a very different feel, just because it was in a different environment.  I really enjoyed this last one at Starbucks.  We talked a lot and got to know each other a little bit.  I'm sure that as more tweetups occur, that we will all get to know each other a lot better.

I look forward to going to more of these tweetups in the future.  If you are in the Greenville area, and on Twitter, feel free to follow greenvillenc and come out to our next Tweetup!  For more info, see the Greenville Tweets site.

Starting a Christmas list...

So, my mom has been asking me for a Christmas list.  I told her that I was going to post it on my blog... today she starts telling me about all of the things she read on my blog, but she said "I can't find your Christmas list anywhere!"  Well thats because I have been lazy and not posted it yet.  So here is the start of it.  (note: Click on the title of each item to see where it can be found online)

I absolutely adore Rascal Flatts.  They are one of my most favorite music groups.  When I heard they were coming out with this album, I quickly went to their website to see what songs will be included.  Not only does it have most of my favorites... it has a bounus Christmas CD too!  What could be better than a whole entire CD Christmas songs being sang by Rascal Flatts!

Right now, I just use my laptop on my lap, but as we all know, that can get rather warm.  This little desk helps keep your laptop cool.  It will also allow me to use my wireless mouse, and number pad if need be.  It would be really nice to have one of these, so that I can still sit on the couch and use my laptop!

Since Old Navy decided to take all of their plus size clothes out of the stores, the only place to buy their clothes is online.  It would just be easier for people to give me gift cards and let me buy what I want from ON, rather than try to buy it online for me.  I really like ON clothes, I just wish that I could try them on before purchasing them.  They have a lot of dressy casual things that would be good to wear to work.  Boo on ON for making Plus Size clothes an "online exclusive."

This is a start... I'll be adding more items later!

Project 365 12/365

Tonight, I made some hot apple cider.  It was so yummy!  Of course, not as good as my favorite Starbucks drink, Caramel Apple Cider, but still good.   I love cold weather like this so that I can enjoy my favorite hot drinks.

PS.  How cute is my mug?!  My whole kitchen is decorated with this apple mottif.  I have always wanted an apple kitchen, so when I bought my house, I knew that this was what I was going to decorate in.

Warning: Depressing Post Ahead....

I miss...
  • Knowing what the hell is going on in my life.  I'm still stuck in this "where am I going" phase.
  • Being in a relationship. Nothing new, I know, but seems like I can't get over this.  I may even write a whole blog about it later.
  • Being comfortable in my own body.  As of late, I've been having issues with this.
  • My best friend:  Long story short, he moved out.  Haven't seen him in like 2 weeks.  Its really hard going from seeing someone everyday and talking to them all the time to just messaging each other on facebook
  • My sister, believe it or not. I just realized that we didn't even talk today.
  • My students.  As much as they get on my nerves sometimes, they make me laugh.
  • Having time to be creative.  I have so many "projects" that I want to get done.
  • Loving my life. Its been a long time since I have been truly "happy."  I don't even know if I would know what it feels like.
  • Friends in general.  I need more.
I want...
  • This pile of clean laundry to magically grow legs and go put itself up.
  • To not feel tired all of the time.  Still think the thyroid is off.
  • To not feel like the world is crashing down around me.  This really sounds like I need to be on anti-depressants.
  • To look forward to going to work instead of dreading it.  I've turned into one of those people who is only there for the paycheck.  I don't care about what I do.
  • To have more willpower to say "NO!" and stick to it.  This is true in many aspects of my life, but one is bothering me a lot lately.  (I won't bore you with the details.)
  • To stop feeling like a slacker all the time.  I feel like I always start stuff but never get anything finished.

Shrimp Scampi... yum!

Tonight, after a long night at work, I came home and made Shrimp Scampi.  Ok, I cheated a little... it was out of a frozen box, and all I really had to do was heat it up.  But it was quick, and really good.  I made some noodles with it and it was so yummy!  Shrimp is probably one of my most favorite foods.  I could eat it everyday... fried, steamed, you name it.  Its about the only kind of seafood that I eat.

blogger's block...

I'm having a little bit of writer's block, or i guess you could call it blogger's block.  For some reason, I am in no mood to write a long drawn out blog.  I suck, I know!

So here's a funny joke I read...

The Loyal Wife!

There was a man who had worked all of his life, had saved all of his money, and was a real miser when it came to his money.

Just before he died, he said to his wife, "When I die, I want you to take all my money and put it in the casket with me. I want to take my money to the +after-life+ with me."

And so he got his wife to promise him with all of her heart that when he died, she would put all of the money in the casket with him. Well, he died...

He was stretched out in the casket, his wife was sitting there in black, and her friend was sitting next to her. When they finished the ceremony, just before the undertakers got ready to close the casket, the wife said, "Wait, just a minute!"

She had a box with her, she came over with the box and put it in the casket. Then the undertakers locked the casket down, and they rolled it away.

Her friend said, "I know you weren't fool enough to put all that money in there in the casket with your husband."

The loyal wife replied, "Listen, I can't go back on my word. I promised him that I was going to put that money in that casket with him."

"You mean to tell me you put that money in the casket with him !!! ?"

"I sure did" said the wife. "I got it all together, put it into my account and wrote him a cheque. If he can cash it, he can spend it."

Birthday Boy!

Today was my little cousin Kasey's 1st birthday party.  He is such a cutie :)  He had a lot of fun playing in his chocolate cake.  We had some good food, and there was a lot of family there.  The child got a lot of toys!  I can't believe he's a year old already!  They grow up so fast these days!

Project 365 8/365

Game Day!

Yesterday, I went to the ECU Game... I had a lot of fun.  This is a picture of my cousin Donna and me in the stands... taken sometime during the 2nd half.  Yesterday was a long day... I'll write about it later, but I wanted to at least get the picture up for Project 365.  There will be more pics in my post later.

Sorry I didn't get my daily blog in yesterday, but I was literally home for about 20 mins.

Tonight on a stop at Walmart, I picked up a new flag... A Pirate Flag! Tomorrow is a home football game, and even bigger than that, its Homecoming... and even bigger than that for me... its the first football game I'm going to! So now my little yard is showing some Pirate Pride! Go Pirates!!

I miss it!

Today I got to sub for a Kindergarten class! I really miss subbing everyday. I am really glad that my boss is letting me sub for a couple of reasons. One, so that my certification does not run out, and two, I still get to interact with the kids every now and then.

While, Kindergarten isn't my favorite assignment, I still enjoy it, for the most part. I don't have the patience that it takes to deal with that age group, and I have discovered that by the practicums that I did in school, and by subbing. I would much rather be in a 4th or 5th grade classroom.

Today, I realized how much I miss teaching. Everyone asks me if I'm done with school, or why I'm not teaching. I get tired of telling the story, because it makes me feel like a failure. But, sometimes "life" just gets in the way of the best made plans. Whether or not people believe it, I've gone through a lot in the past 2 years, a lot more than I ever bargained for. One day, I will go back to school, and I will be a teacher. Its just going to take a few more years to get there.

Happy Anniversary!

This picture probably isn't the best quality, as far as photography goes, but I took it with my cell phone. This is the calendar that is on the refrigerator at my parent's house. Today is their 26th wedding anniversary, as you can see by the "26 years!" that my mama wrote on the day.

I hope that one day, I can celebrate 26 years of marriage...

Project 365 5/365

Fall Decor...

This is a picture of my mantle all decorated for fall. I just added the scarecrows on each side, because they are a new addition to my fall decor. I actually bought them on the cheap, and it was too good to pass up. A couple of days after Halloween, I was at the grocery store and all of their Halloween/Fall decor (the limited selection that they had) was marked 1/2 off. The original price on these scarecrows was only $6.99, so I got both of them for just over $7.

Most nights, I sit here with the lights off, and the candles lit. Its so relaxing and makes the house smell good :)

The Day After the Election

I will preface this post with this: I am not one to usually forward emails, or repost bulletins on myspace. Also, I have a little more tolerance for other religious beliefs than most of my family. I am also not one to "force" my beliefs on others. But, I saw this bulletin posted several times on myspace today and it really struck a cord with me.

  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, Jesus will still be King.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, our responsibilities as Christians will not have changed one iota.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the greatest agent for social change in America will still be winning the hearts and minds of men and women through the gospel, not legislation.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, my primary citizenship will still be in this order - (1) the Kingdom of God, (2) America, not vice-versa.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the tomb will still be empty.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the cross, not the government, will still be our salvation.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, our children will still be more concerned with whether or not we spend time with them than with who is President.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, my neighbor will still be my neighbor, and loving him/her will still be the second greatest commandment.
  • (Do you know the first?)
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the only way to see abortion ultimately overturned will still be winning men and women to a high view of life through the gospel of Christ.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, the only way to see gay marriage ultimately defeated will still be winning men and women to a biblical view of marriage through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, my retirement will still not match my treasure in Heaven.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, "Jesus Is Lord" will still be the greatest truth in the Universe.
  • The day after the election, regardless of who wins, we will still know that God is in control.

While my candidate may not have won, as a Christian, I still need to remember to take the above statements to heart. Sometimes it is hard to remember that God is in Control. Maybe this is the wake up call that so many people needed.

Project 365 4/365

This is how I spent the majority of my night last night. Sitting on my couch, with my laptop, remote, cell phone and church stuff. I've been helping out a guy at the church update the Church Website with upcoming events. So, the church directory and bulletins were helping me know whats coming up and what events to add.

The cell phone, was so I could keep up with all the text messages I was getting and phone calls about the election results...and the remote allowed me to flip through various networks to see all of the projections.

So as I sat, watching the election results, was flipping back and forth from updating the site to refreshing NC's board of elections page.

This is a pretty boring update, I know :) Now,I'm still a day behind on the photos, less than a week in, and I'm already behind! Geez...

Kinda Late

I haven't posted a blog today, but I want to so that I won't be a NaBloPoMo failure. I don't feel like writing much tonight. So, in an attempt to make a blog post today... I will say this.

I only hope the promises of "change" don't come back to bite this country in the butt.

With that being said, I'm going to bed, with a heavy heart. I'll post my Project 365 post tomorrow...
